February 24- 28



During integrated reading we will continue our Charlie and Chocolate Factory book study as well as learn about George Washington Carver.
The students will:

- listen and visualize read aloud text Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
- ask and answer questions about key details in read aloud text. (ELACC1SL2)
- retell story including key details. (ELACC1RL2)
- identify who is telling the story at various points in a text. (ELACC1RL6)
- compare and contrast characters in the story. (ELACC1RL9)
- review Long O
- have small group phonics lessons depending on individual needs. (ELACC1.RF.1a, 2b,d, 3a,b,g)
- have differentiated guided reading lessons.
- learn about the contributions George Washington Carver made to the USA. (SS1H1)

During Writing Workshop the students will:
- write opinion pieces stating opinion about given topic, reason for the opinion, and a closing to the writing.(ELACC1.W.1) 
- learn about the 4 types of sentences (declarative, interrogative, imperative, exclamatory)(ELACC1L1.1)

Spelling: List 20 (where, most, know, get, through)
The test will be Monday, March 3.
 
In math the students will measure given objects with nonstandard units (paperclips, connecting cubes, etc.) The students will compare objects determining which are shorter or longer.(MCC1.MD.1, MCC1.MD.2) The students will also add and subtract numbers within 20 using various strategies. (MCC1.OA.6)
 
We will have a  Media Center lesson Friday morning.  The students will have time to check out books after Ms. Fletcher's lesson.

* Friday, February 21 is Leadership day.  Please have your child  "dress for success" or wear a Pickett's Mill shirt on this day.

Valentine's day card exchange


Just a reminder that we will be exchanging Valentine's day cards on Wednesday, Feb. 12.  I sent home a class list with information about Valentine's day on Monday.  The photo above is an example of a Valentine's day box make from a shoebox.  I saw some amazing ideas on Pinterest.  Have fun make the boxes and Valentine's with your child!

- have differentiated guided reading lessons.

In math the students will identify 10 more or less 10 of a given two digit number without having to count, and will be able to explain reasoning used.  (MCC1.NBT.5) 
We will also begin our unit on measurement. (MCC1.MD.1, MCC1.MD.2)
 
The kids will be able to get new books on Friday.  I will try to schedule a time on Monday or Tuesday for the kids to get books.
