December Curriculum Update: 

Math:
- Students will add and subtract  within 100 without regrouping using the traditional strategy.  I want to make sure students understand how to add with these strategy, as well
as how to line the numbers up correctly.  I know some of the students are already learning this strategy at home. (MCC2.NBT.5)
ex:  56
     +23 

- Students will recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces. Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes. (MCC2.G.1)


Reading: 

- To understand key details in texts, the students will ask and answer who, what, where, whey, why, and how questions (ELACC2RI1)
- Students will determine purpose of text including what the author wants to answer, explain, or describe (ELACC2.RI6)
- review vowels, decoding rules, and reading strategies during differentiated reading groups. (ELACC2RF3)

ELA/ Writing:

- Students will write informative paragraphs about given topics. (ELA2W2)
- We will review nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Adverbs will be introduced. (ELACC2L1.e)
- Students will write friendly letters to parents (ELACC2L2)

Science: 
- Students will identify sources of energy and how the energy is used. (SCI.2.S2P2.a)
Students will demonstrate changes in speed and direction using pushes and pulls.  (SCI.2.S2P3)

November Curriculum Update:

- Students will add and subtract  within 100 using strategies based on place value
(base ten blocks, expanded form, hundreds charts, number line) (MCC2.NBT.5,6,7,9)
- Students will solve 2 step word problems (MCC2.OA.1)

Reading: 

- To understand key details in texts, the students will ask and answer who, what, where, whey, why, and how questions (ELACC2RI1)
- Students will determine purpose of text including what the author wants to answer, explain, or describe (ELACC2.RI6)
- review vowels, decoding rules, and reading strategies during differentiated reading groups. (ELACC2RF3)

ELA/ Writing:

- Students will begin Informative Writing project about given topics. (ELA2W2)
- We will review nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Adverbs will be introduced. (ELACC2L1.e)
- Students will write friendly letters to parents (ELACC2L2)
- Students will learn about prefixes and suffixes (ELACC2L4.b,c)


Social Studies: 
- Students will learn about the following historical figures: Sequoyah, Tomochichi, Mary Musgrove, and James Oglethorpe. (SS2H1)

Science: 
- Students will identify sources of energy and how the energy is used. (SCI.2.S2P2.a)

Holiday Toy Drive- Nov. 10-14

The Pickett's Mill annual HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE that benefits MUST Ministries will be taking place November 10-14. We're asking for families that are able to assist to please send in a new and unwrapped toy in order to lend a helping hand. Examples of items that can be sent in are Legos, dolls, games, puzzles, and more!
