Feb. 27- March 3

This week we will:

- review counting coins and bills, and solve word problems involving money.  
- have reading groups based on reading levels and student needs.
- continue our unit on fairy tales

- write a friendly letter to our parents.
- review plural nouns
- continue our writing unit on opinion writing.  
- continue our unit on the Sun, Stars, and the Moon.


*Some students need extra practice with adding and subtracting two and three digit numbers using the place value strategies taught in class. Therefore those students will have a homework/ extra work packet coming home this week. Please help your child complete the packet and return it once it is completed. 
Some students will have more work than others. 
We will review the strategies in class, and it will be assessed again throughout the third and forth grading periods. 
If your child does not bring home a homework/ extra work packet, then your child understands how to use the strategies to solve problems and doesn't need the extra help.

Practice Drills for Safey

You may hear your child talking about drills we have been practicing at school recently. To reinforce safety, and instill automatic responses during an emergency we have reviewed fire drills, tornado drills and code red lock down drills. Thank you for reinforcing the importance of practicing safety procedures at home.

February 6- 10

This week we will:

- learn how to add and subtract three digit numbers using number lines.  
- continue practicing how to tell time on an analog clock. (Please practice this skill at home.  Many kids are still struggling with this life skill.)
- have reading groups based on reading levels and student needs.
- begin our unit on fairy tales

- write a friendly letter to our parents.
- learn about compound words (closed, open, and hyphenated).
- continue our writing unit on opinion writing.  
- begin our unit on the Sun, Stars, and the Moon.

Remember Friendship cards (Valentine Cards) and boxes are due by next Tuesday, February 14.
