March 24- 28

 
During integrated reading we will learn about American Folktales.
The students will:
- ask and answer questions about key details in a text. (ELACC1RI1)
- Identify the main topic and retell key details of a text.(ELACC1RI2)
- retell story including key details. (ELACC1RL2)
- compare and contrast characters in the stories. (ELACC1RL9)
- learn about -er and -ir words
- have small group phonics lessons depending on individual needs. (ELACC1.RF.1a, 2b,d, 3a,b,g)
- have differentiated guided reading lessons.
- learn how the characters in American folktales such as Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyan, John Henry, Davy Crockett, Annie Oakley were alike in the way they characterized our national heritage, but also different.(SS1H2)

During Writing Workshop the students will:
- review how to write a paragraph with a topic sentence, at least three detail sentences, and a conclusion sentence. (ELACC1W2)

Spelling- List 24: think, also, around, another, came
 
 In math the students will compare 2 two-digit numbers based on meaning of the tens and ones digits, and will record results of comparisons with the symbols <, >, and =. MCC1.NBT.3

PTA- Student Leadership Night

Save the Date! Please join us on April 17th for a PTA meeting and Student Leadership Night! This student-led evening will include many of the events from our Leadership Day. The students will:

- ask and answer questions about key details in read aloud text. (ELACC1SL2)

- compare and contrast characters in the stories. (ELACC1RL9)
- review Long U
- have small group phonics lessons depending on individual needs. (ELACC1.RF.1a, 2b,d, 3a,b,g)
- have differentiated guided reading lessons.
- learn about the seven continents and four oceans (SS1G3.a,b)

During Writing Workshop the students will:
- write opinion pieces stating opinion about given topic, reason for the opinion, and a closing to the writing.(ELACC1.W.1)

March 3 - 7


On Monday, March 3 we will be celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday as well as Read Across America.
Don't forget that Monday is pajama day.

During integrated reading we will finish our Charlie and Chocolate Factory book study as well as read Jack and the Beanstalk and begin our plant study.
The students will:

- listen and visualize read aloud text Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
- ask and answer questions about key details in read aloud text. (ELACC1SL2)
- retell story including key details. (ELACC1RL2)
- identify who is telling the story at various points in a text. (ELACC1RL6)
- compare and contrast characters in the story. (ELACC1RL9)
- work on story sequence after listening to Jack and the Beanstalk ( ELACC1RL2)
- review Long O
- have small group phonics lessons depending on individual needs. (ELACC1.RF.1a, 2b,d, 3a,b,g)
- have differentiated guided reading lessons.
