8 is GREAT!

For the last 8 days of school we will celebrate with these fun activities.

Monday, May 14: Puzzles and Pets

                  The students will bring in puzzles and a stuffed animal from home.

Tuesday, May 15: Field Day and Cow Drop

Make sure your child wears his/her team color, as well as sunscreen.  We can’t apply sunscreen to students.  The students will also need a water bottle, and may wear hats and sunglasses.

Wednesday, May 16: Cartoon Day

The students will learn how to draw specific cartoons in the morning and will watch a cartoon movie in the afternoon.

Thursday, May 17: Camp Day

We will enjoy a day of reading in tents (under the desks). The students may bring in a small blanket and a small pillow, as well as a flashlight and books from home.  We will end the day with s’mores. 

Friday, May 18: Friendship Day and Pickett’s Mill Love Day

We will make a “friendship snack” in the morning, followed by “snack on the track” with our other second grade friends.  In the afternoon we will sign yearbooks and/or autograph books with all second grade classes.

Monday, May 21: Beach Day

The students may bring in beach towels to lay on while we watch Moana in the morning. Then in the afternoon we will celebrate our class with our End of Year party with yummy treats, chalk and bubbles, and hopefully enjoy the sun outside pretending to be on the beach.

Tuesday, May 22: Cleaning Day, Early Release

We will clean the classroom from top to bottom.  Everything will come home today.  Dismissal will be at 12:20.

Wednesday, May 23: LAST DAY OF SCHOOL, Early Release

                  We will read Last Day Blues and try not to be blue that it’s the lastday.

Remember the students are not allowed to bring anything to school on the last day. Dismissal will be at 12:20.

                 

April 30- May 4

Market Day will be Friday, May 4 from 8- 9:30.  
Students' projects and items being sold should be in the cafeteria by 7:50. 
Parents may help set up, but this is a student only event. 😊

- wrap up our opinion pieces of writing.

- have our first compacting lesson with the other second grade classrooms focusing on money.
- continue our geometry unit, focusing on 3D shapes.
- begin our Fairy Tale projects
- have guided reading groups. 

- learn about dental health

Wacky Tacky Wednesday, March 14. 
For $1.00, your child may dress wacky and tacky.  All donations will go for the schools I work with in Haiti. :)

- read informational articles from Time For Kids, complete assignments related to article, and identify text features.
- review contractions, nouns, verbs, adjectives, and putting words in ABC order.
- have our class Holiday Centers on Friday, December 15 from 12-2.  Please email Sarah Warner if you have any questions.  We have a sign up to help with supplies and planning for parents to help with centers.

During the week of 18- 20 we will:
- watch a holiday movie and have snacks with our second grade friends during the Second Grade Holiday Party on Monday, December 18.  This is a STUDENT only event.
- review contractions, nouns, verbs, adjectives, and putting words in ABC order.
-  read informational articles from Time For Kids, complete assignments related to article, and identify text features.
- review place value and other math concepts taught this grading period.

Thanksgiving Feast Luncheon

Dear Parents, Grandparents, & Family,

It’s that time of year again! Pickett’s Mill will be hosting it’s 4th Annual Thanksgiving
Feast Luncheon. All parents, grandparents, & family are invited to join the celebration.
The Feast will take place during your child’s 30 minute lunch period on their assigned
day.
* Thanksgiving Lunch for Kindergarten, 2nd, & 3rd Grades will be Tuesday,
November 14, 2017. Our lunch time is 11:25- 11:55.
* Thanksgiving Lunch for 1st, 4th, & 5th Grades will be Wednesday,
November 15, 2017.

We are very excited to continue this holiday tradition with our Pirate Friends & Family.
In order to expedite the process & keep things running smoothly, we are asking:

(1) Understand you will not be able to request siblings from other classes have
lunch with you. Each student has their allotted time frame. Of course, you
are welcome to have lunch with all of your children at their allotted times.

(2) Arrive 15 minutes early, as parking is always at a premium & we will be on
a very strict time schedule. You may park in the front lot or the back bus
parking lot as needed.

(3) In an effort to expedite time spent in the serving line & to make the most of
your visit, we are asking everyone Pre-Pay on their child’s lunch account
prior to & for all attending the Feast. This can be done by sending in cash,
check, or posting on www.mypaymentsplus.com.

Please note, even if your child is at Free or Reduced meal status, this
does NOT apply to Guest Meals--they will be full price--$3.75.

We look forward to seeing all of you this November 14th & 15th.
